Premier League Betting Tips; Matchweek 1
The Premier League is back, and here's hoping for a lot of goals in the opening matches this weekend!!
The Premier League is back, so that means a return to my football betting tips and match predictions.
So, will Manchester City make it three titles in a row? Or will their gamble to get rid of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, to replace them with Erling Haaland backfire?
Elsewhere, despite making an impressive-looking signing in Darwin Núñez, Liverpool is certain to miss the all-around skills and work rate of Sadio Mane, after his departure to Bayern Munich.
There are so many uncertainties leading into this season, and it will be intriguing to watch them unfold, and this is one of the reasons I did originally decide not to publish any predictions or tips this weekend.
There is never any real form to work with when just looking at pre-season friendlies. But after watching the Palace v Arsenal match last night, which went predictably, I changed my mind.
So today, I'm looking at three betting tips this weekend, all paying around the even money mark. If we get two out of three correct, we're in profit.
I'm looking at goals as well, this gives us a better chance of success when the form of all the teams is still unproven at this early stage of the season.

But first, don't miss the chance to join the Fantasy Premier League at Football Gambler. It's too late for week 1, but as the Scout on the FPL website points out here, there are plenty of benefits to joining ahead of the second matchweek.
The main reasons are you can take a look at who played in matchweek 1 and put those players in your team. For example, I based my team on last season's squad, and some of those players might not be in form or favour this early in the new season.
Matchweek 1 Betting Tips
Right, onto my betting tips for Matchweek 1 in the Premier League. And the first match I'm looking at is the lunchtime kick-off.
Fulham v Liverpool Betting Tips - Saturday 12.30pm
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds didn't miss Sadio Mane last Saturday in the Community Shield. That said, they will miss him in the long run.
But the 3-1 win over Manchester City showed they are on song already, and against a newly promoted Fulham, the Reds should have too much.
Liverpool is 1/4 to win the match, with over 2.5 goals at 1/2. Neither of these prices is appealing, but over 3.5 goals at 5/4 is more appealing.
The Reds won 3-0 on the opening weekend last year at Norwich, and although I expect Fulham to be a touch more competitive than the Canaries were last year, I can still see a bit of 3-1 or something in this region today.
Last year's fixture at Carrow Road resembled a pre-season friendly. Whereas, Fulham may have a goal in them today.
Tip - Over 3.5 Goals
Newcastle v Nottingham Forest Betting Tips - Saturday 3pm
Eddie Howe has just signed a new contract and things seem all rosy at St James Park. In typical Toon Army form of recent years, that gives rise to the theory that Nottingham Forest will ride into town and leave with a 1-0 win, after a scruffy match.
Take the negative thoughts away, and look at the facts. Yes, Newcastle didn't score many last season, but it's possible to see them putting a couple of goals past Forest today.
It's also possible to see Forest scoring on the opening day of the season. This is the feel-good time of the campaign for newly promoted teams, and Steve Cooper might see this as a good time to attack and try and land an early 3 points.
Both teams to score is 19/20, which is also the same price as over 2.5 goals. I'm leaning more towards over 2.5 goals, as it also covers a big home win like 3-0 or 4-0, should it be a one-sided match. I wouldn't be put off either bet though.
Tip - Over 2.5 Goals
Leicester v Brentford Betting Tips - Sunday 2pm
Finally, I'm looking at stuck in neutral Leicester City against Brentford, who may well fancy their chances away to a side seemingly happy to stand still at the moment.
What's the mentality like at Leicester City at the moment? No major signings to speak of, and Kasper Schmeichel has left. The Foxes are also batting away interest in some of their other stars. It does leave you wondering what James Maddison is thinking with Newcastle sniffing around, looking to secure his services!
Brentford lost Christian Eriksen, I don't think anybody could begrudge him one last attempt at making the big time - although you could question why at Manchester United. The Bees have made a couple of signings, but no one who really looks like they will make up for the loss of Eriksen, or improve the squad greatly.
So, with Brentford gambling on the side that did so well (more so after the arrival of Eriksen) last season, are they a team ripe for the taking? Possibly, and I wouldn't be shocked to see them go down.
But as for today, I think both sides will see this as a winnable match, and I think it will be 2-1 to one or the other team, so I’m covering with over 2.5 goals.
Tip - Over 2.5 Goals
So to recap, my bets for this weekend are:-
Fulham v Liverpool - Over 3.5 Goals @ 5/4
Newcastle v Nottingham Forest - Over 2.5 Goals @ 19/20
Leicester v Brentford - Over 2.5 Goals @ 3/4
