Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 9
My match predictions for all 10 fixtures in the Premier League on Matchweek 9, including the featured match between Man Utd and Liverpool on Sunday.
Another Premier League matchweek, and another manager gone. This time it’s Steve Bruce who is out of a job, meaning for the second matchweek running, there will only be 19 of the bosses who were there the week before.
On the pitch, and the big match of the weekend is between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Mohamed Salah is the man of the moment, and as the joint top scorer in the Premier League, fans on Liverpool will be looking to their star man to lead them to victory this Sunday.
Salah is absolutely flying at the moment, and looks back to the same player he was a couple of years back when Liverpool won the Premier League title.
Anyway, it’s time to take a look at the latest Premier League betting odds courtesy of 888Sport.
Latest Premier League Winner Betting OddsÂ
Man City 10/11
Chelsea 21/10
Liverpool 7/2
Man Utd 33/1
Arsenal 150/1
Spurs 200/1
West Ham 250/1
Everton 250/1
As expected, there is no change at the top of the betting. Man City were 10/11 last week, and after taking it easy on Burnley, they stay the same price as they were before.
As for Chelsea, they have been eased in from 23/10, to 21/10, after a less then convincing 1-0 win over Brentford.
Injuries to Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner may see those odds drift out again.
On the back of another impressive win, Liverpool have been cut from 4/1 to 7/2.
The only thing that is holding that price up is that Salah and Mane will be missing in the new year on international duty.
Otherwise, I think Jurgen Klopp’s team would be second favourites, given their current form.
As for the only other realistic title contender, Man Utd, they seen their odds drift from 17/1 to 33/1 on the back of their 4-2 hiding at Leicester.
I know many of you will be laughing at the fact I’ve described United as realistic title contenders, but they were only 2 points behind Chelsea going into Matchweek 8….. but I do take the point!
Matchweek 9 Premier League Match Predictions
Right, what about this weekend’s predictions. Before we get started, these predictions are for a bit of fun only. They’re not what I’m betting on. To find out that, you need to become a full subscriber.
The first match is on Friday night this week, so don’t forget about that!
Arsenal V Aston Villa Match Prediction
The opening match of Matchweek 9 sees Arsenal hosting Aston Villa.
The Gunners have recovered from a poor start to the season and now sit twelve in the table on 11 points.
That’s just one position and point above Aston Villa - who themselves have had an inconsistent start to the campaign.
I kinda think Villa are trying to find a system that can get Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings on the pitch together, but haven’t quite mastered it yet.
As for Arsenal, their mini revival came to a halt last Monday when they drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
I think the Gunners will just edge this one tonight!
Verdict - Arsenal Win
Chelsea v Norwich Match Prediction
Right, there’s no Werner and no Lukaku for Chelsea. I don’t think that will make much difference here though, as Norwich have looked woefully inept since returning to the Premier League.
I imagine the Canaries will pick up a win sometime soon, can’t see it being here though!
Verdict - Chelsea Win
Southampton v Burnley Match Prediction
Burnley are another side still seeking their first Premier League win of the season, but unlike Norwich, they do have a chance.
The Saints won 1-0 at home to Leeds last weekend. Ralf Hasenhuttl’s side don’t strike me as a team that will win many back to back games though.
That said, I’m giving them a point against a Burnley side who did well to keep Man City down to just the two goals last weekend.
Verdict - Draw
Everton v Watford Match Prediction
Watford’s hope for new manager bounce didn’t materialise at home to Liverpool last weekend, so what chance it works on the Red’s Merseyside neighbours this Saturday?
I don’t know what it is with Everton, but I just don’t think something is quite right.
Yes, they’ve had a good start to the season, but I just feel I’m forever waiting for something to go wrong.
Maybe it’s Rafa’s connection with the red half of Merseyside, I don’t know!
Everton dropped points last Sunday at home to West Ham. I don’t see them losing to Watford, but I’m not convinced they will win either.
I’m predicting them to win though, but only just!
Verdict - Everton Win
Leeds v Wolves Match Prediction
One of many Saturday fixtures that looks hard to call.
I’ve been waiting for Leeds to wake up for a few weeks now. They got their first win of the season on Matchweek 7 against Watford, and they looked like maybe they were starting to turn the corner.
There was a great chance for them to build on that win last Saturday, but they lost 1-0 away to Southampton with a disappointing performance.
As for Wolves, they’ve won their last three, and look in decent form.
They did need an epic comeback against Villa last week, the sort that won’t happen very often in fairness.
On form, I’d have to call a Wolves win. But I have a feeling for a draw in this fixture.
Verdict - Draw
Crystal Palace v Newcastle Match Prediction
Right, on form in this one, it has to be Palace. But with all the goings on at Newcastle, it would be just like them to go and win this match.
I might be going mad, but Callum Wilson is back and Allan Saint-Maximin has been outstanding this season. I’m going to stick my neck out and go for a Newcastle win!
Verdict - Newcastle Win
Brighton v Man City Match Prediction
Graham Potter’s Brighton have been outstanding this season, and I would fully expect to see the Seagulls boss linked to bigger clubs such is the excellent job he has done on the south coast.
The Seagulls are fourth in the table with just the one defeat. They have drawn their last three though, and I really can’t see them winning on Saturday either.
As for Manchester City, they looked okay against Burnley last week, and then they really turned up the performance level in the Champions League against Club Brugge on Tuesday.
I keep saying City will slip up some week. But I don’t think it will be this week.
Verdict - Man City Win
Brentford v Leicester Match Prediction
Onto Sunday’s matches, and first up, my favourite side Brentford.
I’ve been appalling at predicting their matches this season, and that’s because I’m judging them on where I think they should be, rather than how they’re actually playing.
So is it time to start predicting the Bees to win? Maybe!
But that said, have Leicester finally turned the corner.
A great 4-2 win over Manchester United last weekend was backed up by an excellent Europa League Cup win in midweek.
I’m giving the Bees a point against Leicester this weekend though - cue the defeat!
Verdict - Draw
West Ham V Spurs Match Prediction
Next up is the ever impressive West Ham. I do think that David Moyes is a very undervalued manager. He does no worse a job than Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds, one is revered, the other maligned!
Moyes’ West Ham picked up an excellent 3 points away to Everton last Sunday afternoon. But their home form has been patchy this season.
As for Spurs, they are a funny side, but the Kane/Son partnership was back in tandem last weekend, and I can see more joy for the duo on Sunday.
Verdict - Spurs Win
Man Utd v Liverpool Match Prediction
Right, the final match of the weekend, and it’s the two most successful club sides in England.
On form, it’s a Liverpool win, but form can go out the window in these matches.
Anyone who witnessed Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand on BT Sports on Wednesday seen a difference of opinions.
Scholes was concerned by United’s first half performance, while Rio chose to focus on the second half showing.
The problem is, the Atalanta match pretty much summed up United under Solskjaer.
Which one is the real United? The first half one, or the second half one? I think it’s more the first half side, so I’m going for a win for the visitors.
I don’t think Ole can keep playing the get out of jail card forever, and I see Liverpool winning this one!
Verdict - Liverpool Win
A 10-fold bet on all ten of my match predictions pays a whopping 5425/1, so it’s worth a quid on anybody’s money.
