Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 13
Matchweek 13 predictions for all 10 EPL matches. Chelsea v Man Utd on Sunday is the weekend's stand out fixture, and I expect a vastly improved United to turn up this time round.
Welcome to my Football Weekly Newsletter, free version, and here is this weekend’s Premier League match predictions.
Matchweek 13 doesn’t look spectacular on paper, only really Chelsea vs Man Utd seems to stand out as a fixture.
Chelsea are on a bit of a role at the moment. The job Thomas Tuchel is doing can’t be underestimated.
They have done remarkably well to come through a phase of having no fit strikers at the club, and still having a lead at the top of the table.
The Chelsea/United match concludes the weekend’s action, and is the last of four live TV matches this weekend.
The four TV matches to be screened live in the UK this weekend are:-
Arsenal vs Watford 12.30pm Sat (BT Sports)
Brighton vs Leeds 5.30pm Sat (Sky Sports)
Brentford vs Everton 2pm Sun (Sky Sports)
Chelsea vs Man Utd 4.30pm Sun (Sky Sports)
In the aftermath of last weekend’s fixtures, we finally seen the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s spell in charge at Old Trafford.
The 4-1 defeat at Watford was unbelievably bad, even by United’s recent standards.
The Old Trafford board’s dithering has already cost them the chance to tempt Antonio Conte to the club, I can only assume they didn’t want the Italian…. either that, or they truly are incompetent (on footballing issues).
I’m not really sure what the delaying to sacking Solskjaer really achieved. It’s been apparent for a few weeks now that Ole was a dead man walking.
Latest Premier League Betting
There’s no change in Man City’s odds to win the Premier League after their 3-0 win over Everton last Sunday.
Elsewhere Chelsea’s odds have been cut from 13/5 (3.60) to 23/10 (3.30), while oddly, Liverpool’s odds drifted from 4/1 (5.0) to 9/2 (5.50). This despite beating Arsenal 4-0.
Man City 8/11 (1.72)
Chelsea 23/10 (3.30)
Liverpool 9/2/ (5.50)
Man Utd 100/1 (101.0)
West Ham 100/1 (101.0)
Arsenal 150/1 (151.0)
Tottenham 250/1 (251.0)

We had one winner, and one loser last weekend. Using level stakes, we broke even.
With regard to these predictions, I do have £1 on each match, and a £1 10-fold accumulator for a bit of fun.
DO NOT take them too seriously though.
Arsenal vs Newcastle Match Prediction
Sat 12.30pm
The first stop this weekend is the Emirates Stadium, and it’s Arsenal at home to Eddie Howe’s more expansive Newcastle.
But how can you say that after one match? I hear you ask…… Well, Newcastle had 23 shots on goal against Brentford last Saturday. Prior to Eddie Howe taking over, Newcastle averaged just 6.5 shots per a match.
As was pointed out on the highlights package I watched last weekend, Newcastle were wide open at the back though.
Would I be overly shocked if Newcastle won this match? No I wouldn’t. I generally mean that too. I can see Newcastle shocking somebody soon, so why not Arsenal.
But with the wide open spaces at the back, I can’t be be predicting a win for the Geordies here!
Verdict - Arsenal Win
Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Match Prediction
Sat 3pm
Crystal Palace managed a battling 3-3 draw away to Burnley last weekend on the back of two wins in a row.
I was impressed with their result, as I thought an away trip to Turf Moor could be just the fixture to trip them up.
As for Villa, could it have gone any better for new boss Steven Gerrard? Probably not!
A goal for Ollie Watkins, and Villa looking more like a team was just what the doctor ordered.
They did concede a lot of possession against Brighton though (Villa had just 37%), and I think against more potent teams than the Seagulls, that won’t bode too well.
I think I’m going to have to go with the home side to shade this one!
Verdict - Palace Win
Liverpool v Southampton Match Prediction
Sat 3pm
With the exception of their 3-2 loss away to West Ham, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have looked unstoppable lately.
In the second half at Anfield last Saturday evening, they just blew the Gunners away. Even Aaron Ramsdale couldn’t stop them…. not that I’m jumping on that bandwagon!!
Anyway, similar to Man City at the moment, it’s just impossible to oppose Liverpool these days.
As for Southampton, they did get a point away at the Etihad earlier this season, but then they couldn’t even manage 1 point at Carrow Road last week.
The Saint’s little mini-renaissance seems to have come to an end, and I can only see another loss for them at Liverpool.
Verdict - Liverpool Win
Norwich v Wolves Match Prediction
Sat 3pm
The Canaries has won back-to-back matches, yes, you read that correctly, the Canaries has won two games running! What’s going on?
Wolves are on a great run of form at the moment.
Yes, they did lose 2-0 away to Crystal Palace just ahead of the international break, but how did they bounce back from that defeat? By beating in-form West Ham at Molineux last Saturday.
In their last seven matches, Wolves has won 16 points. That’s impressive in the Premier League!
And I can’t see Norwich winning three matches on the spin - meaning it’s a straight choice between a draw and a Wolves win here.
I’m going for an away win!
Verdict - Wolves Win
Brighton v Leeds Match Prediction
Sat 5.30pm
The final match on Saturday is not one to get the juices flowing.
Yes, out of form Brighton, face out of form Leeds United at the Amex Stadium.
The Seagulls lost 2-0 away to Aston Villa last Saturday and have now not won in their last seven Premier League matches.
As for Leeds, they have won two of their last six, but they have also lost their last two.
Bielsa’s team haven’t clicked yet this season, and something feels amiss.
Defeat here coupled with a win for Burnley will see Leeds in the relegation places. And I can see them losing again.
Verdict - Brighton Win
Brentford v Everton Match Prediction
Sun 2pm
Another two teams in a poor run of form, and another live TV match not likely to inspire much interest outside of fans of both teams.
Brentford has just 1 point from their last five matches - and guess what, Everton has just 1 point from their last five matches, also!
Something may give in this fixture, and I’m going for Rafa to buy himself some breathing space, and a much needed win for the Toffees.
Verdict - Everton Win
Burnley v Spurs Match Prediction
Sun 2pm
The Clarets scored three at home last Saturday in an open and entertaining draw with Crystal Palace.
They entertain a Spurs side who have just been humiliated by Mura (the lowest ranked side in the Europa Conference League) in midweek.
Yes, Spurs did have a shadow side out, but nevertheless you would have expected them to come away from Slovenia with at the very least a draw.
I do see Spurs winning this though, they have enjoyed playing against Burnley in recent seasons, and I can see them making it two Premier League wins in a row.
Verdict - Spurs Win
Leicester v Watford Match Prediction
Sun 2pm
Brendon Rodgers’ up and down Leicester side take on Ole slayers Watford at the KP Stadium. This match also sees a home coming for Leicester’s Premier League winning boss, Claudio Ranieri.
The Foxes haven’t got going at all in the Premier League this season. They did string back-to-back wins together in mid October, but have since followed that up with two defeats and a draw.
In fairness the defeats were to Arsenal and Chelsea.
As for Watford, I wouldn’t be reading a great deal into last Saturday’s massacre of Manchester United.
On the whole Watford have been abysmal recently. Their two wins have come over the hopelessly out of form Everton and Man Utd, and I expect Leicester to put the Hornets in their place!
Verdict - Leicester Win
Man City v West Ham Match Prediction
Sun 2pm
As well as West Ham has done lately, just look at how well Man City has done also.
City have dropped points at home to both Southampton and Crystal Palace this season, and I don’t see them dropping many more.
I can only see another comfortable home win here.
Verdict - Man City Win
Chelsea v Man Utd Match Prediction
Sun 4.30pm
Finally, the one we’re all waiting for. Thomas Tuchel’s winning machine up against much improved Manchester United.
There’s a prediction already, United will be much improved. Well, they couldn’t be any worse than last weekend, could they!
Going in United’s favour is Harry Maguire is suspended for this one, and also the fact that Ole is finally gone.
All this points to an improved performance from the Red Devils.
Chelsea have been dealt a blow this week with the news that in-form Ben Chilwell will be out for at least 6 weeks, maybe longer.
I still expect to see Chelsea win this match though, and they are my choice to win the final Premier League match of the weekend.
Verdict - Chelsea Win
